Dermot Hegarty comes from County Longford. He is a singer and songwriter whose first recording entered the Irish charts in 1967 with well-known hits as the Shores of Amerikay; Love is Teasing and Only our Rivers Run Free. In 1969, Dermot formed a band called The Plainsmen and the following year, he recorded the legendary “21 Years”, a song that launched him to the international stage and stayed at Number 1 in the charts for 4 weeks and 39 weeks in the Irish charts. In the past, he has toured Canada, the United States and Europe topping the bill at such notable landmarks such as New York’s Carnegie Hall, The Royal Albert Hall and the Ulster Hall. He has recorded 25 albums so far and has worked as entertainment director for cruise lines and Enjoy travel.
